What is love? There are as many definitions as there are people in the world, so it is a question with a million answers and yet most still do not understand it. Yet it is something every one of us crave and would do anything to gain for ourselves. There is a popular song with the words: What the world needs now, is love sweet love. Is love really the answer to all of our troubles? Can love change anything? Look at every terrible thing that is happening in the world today and you have to wonder if it is even a possibility. What could be that strong to change the world?
Sentimentality changes nothing, but it changes with circumstances. I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about love that is stronger than death, that rises above the troubles of everyday life, bringing with it the gifts of peace and joy that are beyond human understanding. This love is God’s essence, for God is love. This is the love that swallows up hatred and destroys it—forever. This is the love that transforms you from the inside out. This is the love that does not need a reason to pour its riches upon you. The simple fact that you exist is all true Love needs to wrap itself around your soul.
