Life in the Waiting Room

And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.” Luke 2:25

The first candle in the Advent wreath symbolizes anticipation.  Simeon’s life was wrapped in the promise of the consolation of Israel. God had also made him a personal promise that he would see the Lord’s Christ before his death. He looked for him  with the anticipation of a child waiting for his parents to come home with a special gift.  Spirit-filled, he went into the temple and was able to hold Israel’s Hope in his arms.  God blessed him that day with a double fulfillment to a double promise.  He could truly rest in peace.

So, what does my waiting room look like?  Am I living a devout, righteous life?  Do I look with anticipation for the Lord’s working in my life, confident that He will keep His promises?  Then my waiting room is full of worship, praise, and joy. That’s the kind of waiting I want to do this Christmas season.

“Rejoice in the Lord always.  And again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
