Hope: The Strength of Life

Hope is the offspring of faith, the breath of heaven, and the substance of joy and peace. The Bible says: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” I titled one of my books Trilogy of Hope for the three stories it contains that breathe hope into the tragic circumstances of my characters. In the first story, Willow has suffered a trauma in the past that she tries to push deep into her soul. However, the effects of that trauma poison her life with hatred and despair. The suicide of an old friend brings it to the surface in the form of terrifying nightmares where she re-lives the attack. She believes there is no way out.

How do you find hope when you’ve been traumatized? The first whisper of hope is truth: There is healing and a new life on the other side of your pain. You can read more about Willow’s journey in “More Than Forgiven”. Right now I am concerned with your journey to healing. As I have written, the first step is to believe in hope. Why should you? Because God is the God of hope and real healing comes from Him. The process is not easy, but the outcome is worth it. Think of the birth of a baby: the pain of labor is temporary; the joy of a new life is eternal. Jesus says: “…It will be like a woman experiencing the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives place to joy because she has brought a new person into the world.” John 16:20-22. You are that new person waiting to be born.
