I believe the Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) has been misunderstood and unfairly maligned. It does not devalue other lives; it simply includes us on the human level with those lives. BLM fights for equality and freedom, two things that belong to every human being. Black and Brown bodies have suffered since the founding of our country through slavery, unrelenting poverty, segregation, police brutality, and mass incarceration. BLM wouldn’t have to exist if this country practiced the truism that all men are created equal. Thankfully, equality and freedom are the realities of God’s Kingdom. God so loved the world—that means every human being on the planet without exception. Until unconditional love becomes the standard in American society, organizations like BLM will rise to fight for Black and Brown bodies that otherwise are considered less than. Remember, Black lives matter, too.
