Race was socially constructed to justify the horrors perpetrated on Black, Brown, and indigenous peoples. It is a carefully crafted body of lies. The only way to defeat lies is truth. The only way to defeat darkness is light. Pilate asked Jesus “What is truth?” while Truth was standing right in front of him. Pilate was blind. We can be blind to the truth by believing someone else’s interpretation of the Bible, as long as it coincides with the lifestyle we have chosen. Those beliefs become part of our value system without us realizing it. We act on what we value, no matter what we say. We can also be blinded by society and culture. Satan is a deceiver and a master manipulator. He has blinded the minds of those that believe not, but he has also deceived God’s people. Here’s where Truth comes in to defeat that deception.
But I am assuming that those who believe the lies will accept the truth when it comes. I have discovered that if the lie benefits the person, they are loath to give it up because it is in their self-interest to continue in that path, no matter what reality tells them. A cherished way of life trumps acknowledgement of the truth. Unfortunately, knowledge of the truth does not necessarily mean it will be embraced. Speaking and writing the truth is only the beginning of transforming the hearts and minds of God’s children.
I’ve been reading books that have done a thorough job of expounding and detailing those racist lies with stories that further seared my already broken heart. I want to share what I am learning about racism in the Christian culture. How has the Church been complicit in the body of lies racist men have created? I believe the Church forgot where it came from and where it is going. History as well as the present proves over and over again that the Church has been socialized to believe in the supremacy of whiteness, making it (whiteness) the standard by which all is measured. How do I know? Join me in the months ahead as I tell the stories and expound the truths from God’s word that offer love and transformation. His is the standard to which all else must be measured. Glory to His Name.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
