Come and Rest

Rest. What comes to your mind when you hear the word? In my novel Sister, Rayne Lewis has the world on her shoulders after her mother’s death. She was taught from a child to be everything for all people, especially her family. The responsibilities thrust upon her are almost too much for her to bear. Where is her salvation? Jesus speaks these words to her: “Come to Me, all you that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you REST.” Sounds very simple and easy, just giving all to Jesus, but Rayne, like many of us, continues to shoulder the impossible. I’m not talking about a taking a nap or getting physical sleep at night. It’s much deeper than that.
Do you understand how the winds of a hurricane can toss the surface of the ocean around angrily, crushing all in its path, while hundreds of feet below, there is incredible calm, where life continues without disturbance? The rage of the storm cannot disturb the calm of the deep. Then you’ll understand this truth: the storms of your life do not even wrinkle the surface of God’s rest. In the stillness He speaks love to your heart and gives direction to your steps. Your soul is strengthened to withstand a monsoon and stay intact.
Do you need rest today? Come to Jesus. If you need assistance in your journey, I am always here to walk with you. Write to me. I live to serve.

Family Secrets

Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” John 14:6
What happens when a family secret has the power to destroy? In my novel Sister, the main character comes face to face with a truth she finds hard to handle because it shatters what she has grown up believing about her family. At the onset of the story, her mother has passed. On the day she is buried, Rayne meets someone from her mother’s past who has that family secret. When the secret is finally revealed, will her relationships hold?
Does truth always hurt so much? Many times, yes. Why? Because it slices through the lies that have kept it in the darkness. Rayne has a choice: will she accept love and forgive, or hold onto pain and get revenge? Love is the mother of forgiveness and these two working together are a healing balm when the truth cuts deep and creates wounds. The chaos truth causes is easily overcome through God’s love and in time the heart that chooses His way will grow stronger.
